Potty training going backwards

My 3 year old has been potty trained for around 6 months or so, and was doing well give or take the odd accident.

He started nursery in Jan this year and since then has been going backwards in his potty training, constantly wetting himself, not even asking to go the toilet, but just weeing wherever he stands. He can get through three pairs of trousers a day on a bad day.

Is this usual? Is it the lifestyle change? Is there anything I can do? I've tried talking to him asking if he needs to go etc but none of it seems to be working at the moment.

totally normal, ime. I work in a nursery, and nearly every child goes through the regression phase. It stops being a novelty, they stop getting praise. they become over-confident and leave it too long or they become too reliant on the adult telling them when to go. It is mormally a short phase that they go through before they realise that they are in charge of their own bodies.

Sounds normal to me too - ds was the same (tho dd was fine)

He was using potty for pees and poos all fine, then seemed to regress, especially when he was a bit busy or distracted - it did drive me nuts distress me, but it also got better in the end...we did resort to pull ups when on holiday as I was v. fed up with the 'I need to go to the toilet, oh no, I mean I've BEEN to the toilet' Wink

He's fine now - nearly 4 and now just wees on the floor, so we need to work on aim and lifting the seat. Tho with his father's spacial awareness with fluids record I'm not sure he's going to get any better Grin

Yeah, normal.

My son didn't regress as such, but "leaked" and had accidents at home in the afternoon (guess that is regression!) shortly after starting in September. It didn't last long, just ride it out- don't give it too much attention and it'll pass Smile
