2 year old's reaction to dad.

My 2 year old keeps getting really upset when dh (his dad) gets home from work. He cries and gets really cross. We reckon it's because he associates it with impending bedtime, but my dh gets really hurt by it.

Recently, ds has been saying things too, like "I love mummy but i don't like daddy". Or "I want daddy pig (peppa) to come home not my daddy". And i'm a bit worried about it all. DH is a great dad and i'm not worried about that aspect, but i do think he has been falling into role of 'bad cop' a bit since we had dd 8 mo ago.

Can anyone help or suggest ways i could make the situation better? Has anyone had a similar thing? What should i say when he says things like this (I usually go with 'well daddy loves you very much').

ds says it all the time, I chose to ignore it because I figure a 2 or 3 year old doesn't fully know the meaning of what they're saying. When ds says it I say "oh don't be silly, you love daddy" and say nothing more.

Thanks - good to know ds isn't the only one!
