When did your baby stop all night feeds?

Just curious!

I hear lots of people say their baby doesn't feed in the night anymore, but it seems to mean different things to different people e.g. they give a dream feed at 11pm etc.

So, when did your baby stop having any night feeds at all - i.e. going to bed at 7pm (or whatever time) and then sleeping til morning then eating then.

My DD is 8 months and still has a feed around 11pm, sometimes at 5am ish too. I'm fine with that by the way, but am curious as to what other babies do.

I had two that were completely different!

First daughter went all night about 8pm to 7am from about 5 months.

My second, a son, didn;t go all night till about 9 months.

Just go with the flow. One night, they just won't wake up till the morning!

DS - stopped dream feed at 14 weeks

DD - stopped dream feed at 10 weeks (she just didn't want to get up and only ever had a couple of oz.) I thought I'd see what happened and she went through until 6.30!

Both bottle fed after 6 weeks though so that probably made a difference.

Greeninkmama · 02/02/2011 17:56

I think DD1 was nearly two, and DD2 was 18 months. Not remembering that with any sense of joy, btw! A feed at 11 and 5 sounds very normal for an 8-month-old to me, esp if you are breastfeeding.

mistybluehills · 02/02/2011 18:14

I put a teaspoon of fine baby rice in the last bottle of the day once mine were four months and wanting to sleep all night. Each of mine had different timings, from six months to 11 months.

sunndydays · 02/02/2011 18:40

Dd slept 7-7 from 15 weeks, before that we were waking her, I stopped waking her at 7 in the morning when she was about 5 months and she now wakes around 7:30 am

ssmile · 02/02/2011 18:48

My DD was 9mths when she started to sleep more than 6hrs overnight. She is now nearly 4yrs and still doesn't sleep fully through the night every night. They are all different but once the solid food settles down I think it helps but then you get teething oh joys :)

mewkins · 02/02/2011 19:06

DD is 7 months and it's off and on for her. She will go through a couple of nights but could then wake up ravenous at 1.30am the next night! Depends on her solids intake that day but also teeth, sleep, growth spurts an about a zillion other factors it seems!

sheeplikessleep · 02/02/2011 19:11

DS1 - 11 weeks, slept 7-6.
DS2 - only just sleeping through without feeds at nearly 11 months (7-6). BUT, this was me going 'cold turkey'. Has meant he is now not waking 3 or 4 times a night for feeds. Bliss.

peasandbeans · 02/02/2011 19:15

DD1 dropped her 4am feed at 13 months, when we moved house and she got her own room (slept 7-7)
DD2 slept through at 8 months, when we started offering her water in the night instead of her usual 3-8 breastfeeds.
DS1 slept through 7-7 at at 4 weeks.
DD3 slept through at 6 weeks.

I think what made the difference for DC3 and 4 was that I always put them down awake from newborn rather than feeding them to sleep.

happygilmore · 02/02/2011 19:24

wow 4 weeks :)

Just shows how they all differ doesn't it?

DD stopped night feeds at about 2 years

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/02/2011 19:29

DS is 13 months. Sometimes wakes 4-5 am for a bottle, sometimes he doesn't. I would say about 70% of the time he does without but its been quite a recent thing

lovechoc · 02/02/2011 19:29

DS1 was around 5 months old when he slept right through (around 7 til 7) and DS2 is a work in progress (6 months old!)...

AngelDog · 02/02/2011 23:09

DS still working on it at 13 months. He did drop to one night feed between 7 & 8 months, but then we had teething & developmental spurts so now he gets more. Grin

redflag · 02/02/2011 23:15

Ds2 stopped night feeds about 10 months.
Ds3 stopped all night feeds around 9 weeks.

They are all different

moaningminniewhingesagain · 02/02/2011 23:18

DD was 12/13 months (FF by then)
DS was about 19m (BF)- still rarely sleeps through though

BubsMaw · 02/02/2011 23:18

DD was approx 3 years old when she stopped night feeds, so older than most, but she did/does have food allergies and depended on milk more than most children, I believe she genuinely needed the calories, though to an extent it did turn into comfort feeding.

My DS was 11.5 months old when he stopped night feeding. It's funny but after my experiences with DD and night feeding I'd resigned myself to the long haul of extended feeding, but one evening he decided for himself that he'd finished, and has had no milk at all, day or night, since. He refuses all attempts to get him drinking milk, I do give him lots of yoghurt and cheese instead though.

sarahtigh · 05/02/2011 22:44

8 weeks slept from 11-6
from 5 months 8-7.30 and still does at 14 months, should have stopped dream feed at 4 moths as she never woke up and was taking less and less it was more me scared she would be hungry and wake at 4 but she didn't

GwennieF · 05/02/2011 22:49

DS was 9 months before he slept 7-7, prior to that he had been waking up every couple of hours but more for comfort than anything else. After a few nights of water he slept through.

DD is 6.5 months and generally wakes every couple of hours, though has started going longer this last week. Last night she slept from 7-5, so am crossing my fingers for tonight!

aPixie · 05/02/2011 23:04

Ds1 was doing 12 hours from around 12 maybe 16 weeks (can't remember exactly) know it was quite early though.
Ds2 is 20weeks and still waking up in the night. It's fine though, I'm not expecting him to sleep through the night like I didn't with his brother. It'll come eventually, whenever that may be.

I like the middle of the night feeds anyway. I really missed them with ds1.

pinkmagic1 · 05/02/2011 23:07

DS-5.5 weeks
DD-18 months!

Tgger · 05/02/2011 23:08

At about 13/14 months

  • from 8 months to 13 months she would sleep at 7pm then wake at 5am (groan), at which point I would BF, then she would sleep again till 7. At 13/14 months with a bit of encouragement we managed to quit this feed and she'd go through to 6 and then 7.

DS was much better and quit night feeds at 7 months, but he had 2 bottles and BF from this point, and ate solids well, whereas DD never took a bottle and was slow on solids.
