What does it mean i my child has been put on report?

googled it and i didn't get any info on it. On call? the unit/ on report, are they all the same thing, i'm incredibly confused. Has anyone else's child been put on report. I know it has somthing to do with behaviour but i'm not sure what. anyone fancy explaining?
and i think it's only senior schools that have this.

I first looked at this site when i was informed by my sons Hoy that our son was going to be placed on report the following day for 4 weeks (which came as a shock) as i never knew much about it /how being on report worked. my son whos 14 has been placed on report for 4 weeks for his behaviour in class he has 1 more week to go and has been told if all goes well he will be taken off it at the end of next week. His Hoy has imformed us after 3 weeks that his behaviour and course work has improved since he was put on report and my son has said he has put more effert in to his lessons & (but admits he cant wait untill hes taken off report) his behaviour has improved in class since hes been on report and has said he will askhis Hoy to go back on report for a week/2 if he thinks hes going back to his old ways in the future. my son has to bring his report home for myself/partner to sign daily and its good to see what my son has been doing during his day and reciving some posetive comments so rather than look at my son being put on report as a punishment we are looking it as a posetive as our son's behaviour/work has improved to a high standard.

Just add to my previous comment for some pupils being put on report a sussesfull outcome may not always be achieved as the targets set for them might not be achievable by the person in the set time. My son & his friend were both placed on report the same day, both for 4 weeks & both for behaviour issues & same targets were set. After 4 weeks my son was taken off report as his behaviour & targets set on his report card were achieved. His friend only met 1 of 3 of his targets his behaviour has deteriorated hes now in the isolation unit & on report for a further 2 weeks so some pupils being on report can have a negative response. My son being on report wasant something he was proud of but it was sussesfull in just 4 weeks his classwork/homework,behaviour has greatly improved & agrees its down to his Hoy putting him on report after he recived & ignored numerous warnings this term about his poor classwork/behaviour.

Ds has been put on report for persistent failure to concentrate in class. It had a positive effect while he was on it, and gave us a better idea of what was going on: I'd be tempted to ask the school to keep him on permanent report

It's not really about being 'in serious trouble';; it is a behaviour strategy to tackle something that is affecting the child's learning and/or the learning of others. You can only know whether it is a step too far if you were there and knew the background to the situation.

The exclusion unit can also be used for a variety of purposes. Dd spends a certain amount of time there because she has anxiety issues and has missed a lot of time off school so needs a quiet place to catch up without stress, but some of the other children work there for other reasons, such as disruptiveness.

my 2 year 7 kids have been on report at least 5 times each and they havnt been at secondary school for a term yet. its for being disruptive and bad in lessons or not achieving what they should be! we have to go in and see there form teacher and the teacher who put them on report every time It happens. after every lesson they have to get the teacher to sign it and put a comment and a level of how they worked. they have to report to the teacher that put them on report and their form tutor at 10:50 (break time) lunch time and the end of the day. when they get home the parent also has to sign it! its not that bad although my Rebecca has had about 21 detentions and 6 reports and George has had 14 detentions and 5 reports. IM SO PROUD OF MY LITTLE BAD ASSES hope this is usefull!

just asked ds what friend was put on report for and he said somthing about answering back to their english teacher and saying that it was "discrimination". yeah i know proably going a little too far but to get in serious trouble for argueing, it's bad manners but not harming anyone.

Are you having a laugh? Have you any idea how disruptive kids who constantly argue back and do ridiculous things like claim being asked to follow simple instructions is "discrimination" can be? It harms the other students in the class and it harms the ability of the teacher to deliver uninterrupted learning.

Sometimes it is because that a few minor things have happened in a short period of time, e.g. A couple of missed home works in a week or not having correct equipment on more than one occasion.
Sometimes it could be due to behaviour which has been poor on more than one occasion.
I am a teacher and all schools do this differently and sometimes there are different levels of report such as form tutor, or more serious head of house or head of year, or it could be the head teacher has put then on report.
If you have not been contacted by the school, a phone call or if your child has not recieved a bad report recently, I would assume the report is for something minor.
Contact the school and they will be more than happy to explain what is what

hey
as a six former at a local academy [state] in middlesborough that is the best in north yorkshire i can give you a perfect description of this. im not a mum i just want to help as a kid/young adult. being put on report-
a report is a small booklet given to a child causing a medium distraction to her/himself and others. a teacher must sign it every lesson to say how well the child has behaved. the unit? we call it 'on call' funnily enoigh i was on call today lol. a senior staff memeber or head of house will cometo the lesson and find a better place for the student to work or just talk about perculiar behaviour.

My son was put on report along with his pals, they all wore it like it was a badge of pride, they would roll it up and place it in their pocket and then proceed to walk around the school with a kind of swagger that can only really be associated with the Kray Twins.

The reason being that he bashed a vending machine glass in with a fire extinguisher accidentally to get a crunchy bar, (you know that chocolate covered honeycomb heavenly goodness) who wouldn't resort to extreme measures to obtain one of these? anyway the headteacher was in denial that our little angel just slipped with the fire extinguisher into the vending machine five times.
