2.5yr old dd clamping legs shut

Whenever we need to clean her vagina / vulva area, DD clamps her knees together and won't let us anywhere near.

She is fine about having her bottom cleaned. It's just when she has poo all the way up the front (she is still in nappies) and we need to clean inside the very outer folds of skin at the front. It's almost like a reflex action.

I talk to her gently and calmly about it and she (eventually) makes a huge effort to relax her knees - you can see she has to try really hard not to clamp them shut again.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes, DD is almost 2 and recently has started doing the same thing. One things that works (if she's not too soiled) is lifting her legs up-that gives you a bit more access. I usually try to distract her and be v.quick about it.

As she is 2 could you start to teach her how to wipe herself?

Yes, but mollymax, I doubt she would be able to properly clean herself. When they get poo all over their vulva it's sometimes tricky even for me to get it cleaned up.

She is quite good as washing herself with a sponge in the bath. But she can't use wipes with any great effect yet.

But that is why i said " teach her to do it"
She will soon get the hang of it.

Bidets are fab for this kind of thing .....

are you able to bend her knees?? If so bend her knees and push them up - dd used to clamp her knees together so i couldn't get in to clean her - she said it felt tickly and didn't like it
