Dry skin?

My baby girl was born 4 weeks prem, 4 weeks ago on sunday. I have only bathed her twice since she was born and using only water cos I don't want to put anything on her skin. However she has started to develop really dry, flaky skin all over, including her face. Any suggestions for something mild and gentle to use on her skin. Preferably something natural and 'chemical' free.

Ask at your pharmacist or local herbal shop, but I'd have thought something like aqueous cream, or vitamin e cream would be fine.

Oilatum do a bath oil-type-thing for kids- it's really good. DD has dry skin and this makes it softer than any moisturiser. We don't even put cream on her now.

Olive oil is also good when they are very small.

And congratulations BTW Smile

My daughter had the same and I was just advised to smother her in olive oil which I did and it improved in no time.

olive oil - you can get organic if you want. I suppose you apply it with cotton wool.

Olive oil. You don't need cotton wool, use it as an excuse to give her a massage. You can prob find somewhere running a baby massage course locally. My ds started sleeping through the night when I did it (he was 3months old though).

I only bath ds once a week at most. he's not running around in the garden yet and the only bit of him that gets dirty is cleaned a million times a day with warm water and a drop of oilatum. Grin

I got an oil from neals yard, especially for babies, safe for newborns and totally natural. Pricey but worth it for me, I add a couple of drops to her bath or massage her with it.

They do quite a few other products for babies too.

Also actual water is not that brill get good special salts for bath water and dilute in warm water before adding to bath.
