More sleep questions for 4yoDS

DS has just turned 4 and always been a fab sleeper. He and DD always go to bed with no fuss at about 7.30pm. I?m a routine mad person so it?s always bath, stories, bed. They are both very good and sleep in their own beds all night.
However, the last couple of weeks DS has been struggling to get to sleep. He isn?t remotely naughty about it, but it can be past 9 (as it is as I type this) and he is still awake. He doesn?t mess around in bed, try and play, cry or anything, but just can?t get himself off to sleep.
As a result, he is tired in the day due to being a couple of hours short of the sleep he needs. Help! What can you suggest to help him get himself off to sleep? Thank you

What time does he get up in the morning?

Its usually between 7 and 7.30, though has been sleeping later recently.

You could try a story cd to help lull him to sleep? It doesn't have to replace your bedtime stories or anything. It could also be that he is overtired which makes it difficult to drop off, in which case you could try getting him to bed earlier (which I know sounds strange!) as he may just be getting past the tiredness needed to drop off.

We have tried getting to bed earlier as I know what you mean, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. i did think about a story CD, or some soothing classical music, but DS has just got a CD player for Christmas and I think the novelty might be a bit too much for him and he may end up messing around with the volume etc, insted of trying to sleep. i may give it a go though...
I did try some lavender scnted spray to relax him, but he hated it Hmm
