Toddler started doing poos at night

My 27 month old dd has started holding onto her poos until she goes to bed. Usually I go up to check on her at about 11pm and she's done a huge poo. It's not really a problem, except I know she's doing it because she's become self-conscious about doing poos and I'd love to try to change that. She often goes four or five days with no poos, then does a huge one (at night). Has anyone else got a toddler who has done this? We had a vague attempt at introducing potty a few months ago and I think that was when all our problems started. We gave up quickly and now back in nappies, but she just seems to resist doing a poo, then waits until she's got some peace in her bedroom. Makes sense I suppose! Any advice appreciated. (Also posted this in Nappies - hope that is acceptable mumsnetiquette Smile)

Hay, my 23 month old started holding onto his a few weeks back were it was getting to the point he was in agony, i tried bigger nappies and a potty but nothing seemed to work so I tried taking him into the bathroom with me while i was using the toilet, just so he knows that everyone uses the toilet, then after a day I let him use the toilet and he was there for a good 20 minutes doing poos.
I used to have to get up in the middle of the night and change him, which was very inconvienent.
Now hes on pull up pants and I take him to used the normal (big boys, to make him feel grown up) toilet 3/4 times a day just to avoid any midnight nappy changes again and the problems resolved, he know used his potty/nappy or the toilet to do the toilet now. Hope this helps, would like to hear back on how you get on :) good luck :) xx

Our DS (aged 3.9) has been doing this for ages, probably since he was 2. He has been potty trained for a year now and just won't poo on the toilet but waits until bedtime when he has his nappy on, and is in bed asleep. He often holds on for several days too. Strangely he is happy to do poos on the loo at nursery. He says because he doens't "wobble" there as the loo is small. I think he feels more secure with his feet on the ground.

I am afraid to say we have tried everything (bribes, getting cross, stickers, being encouraging) and nothing has worked. We've now given up and are hoping it will just resolve itself one day. We know there is nothing wrong with him physically as he is perfectly regular at nursery.

Sorry if that is not much help = hope things get better soon.
