6 month old behaviour change

This is the first time I've posted so please help! DS is 6 months old and until recently was a very lovely, chatty, happy boy (apart from not sleeping terribly well...). Last week he seemed to transform into a very whingey, irritable baby that doesn't smile very much. He's also gone very quiet and not making all the noises that I love! I miss him. Where's he gone? I'm wracked with guilt that it's my fault coz we've been doing a bit of controlled crying. Have I done this to him? I thought it might be teething but apart from constant chewing he's not showing the classic signs of teething. Is this a normal 6 month thing? Will he come back?

Many thanks!

PS. Just started him on solids. Not sure if this is confusing him too.....

Ah solids. Exactly the same with my DS. Once we'd got through the inevitable mild constipation smiler was back!

Hope he gets through it soon

Bump. He's cheered up a bit now but is just so quiet! Is this a normal developmental thing?

It did take a while for him to get through the constipation, depends how he is doing really. Is he healthy in all other respects? Weeing well, normal temperature etc. Could he be teething? My DS didn't show signs of teething but just popped a tooth.
