My friends little girl keeps on waking up in the night screaming and asking for a cuddle, however when my friend tries to comfort her,she pushes her away and becomes even more hysterical. Both have been fighting a cold for the last couple weeks, could this be related?has anyone experienced this?many thanks in advance

DD is 2.2 and she occasionally has night terrors. They're just like you described and I hate them - just feel so helpless. DD gets them when she's ill or when we travel. Disrupted sleep is one of the main causes so if she's got a cold it could well be the reason. The best thing to do is not to wake them up/cuddle them but to stay near until they go back to sleep. They won't remember it in the morning. Hope she gets over her cold soon!

Thanks a lot for your response winterchillita- my friend found it comforting to know there were other people experiencing the same problem..much better now that she's getting over her cold. x

my 5yo gets them from time to time, if he has them 2 nights in a row, on the 3rd night we wake him about an hour after he goes to sleep and then settle him again which seems to stop them.

We do wake him though, just bring him downstairs and then he goes back to bed when he's calmed down. he never remembers being downstairs in the morning.

His are worse when he is ill or overtired. hope this helps
