Responding to name

When is a baby meant to start responding to her name?
My DD is almost 8 months, and I am not concerned about her hearing, but she still doesn't respond when I say her name. Is this normal?

TIA

I can't actually remember when either of my DC begun to respond to their names Hmm, but I think it was quite a bit older than 8 months. Possibly 10 or 11 months or maybe even older.

I don't think you need to worry about it yet.

bump - surely someone can be more helpful than me?

I've just looked this up and its meant to be when they're about 12 months old Smile.

I don't remember exactly when it was for DD, but I'm sure it was much later than 8 months. Later than 12 months as well I think.

So not something to worry about IME.

Mine loks round now, but not sure if it is just tone of voice, rather than her actually responding to her name, iyswim.

Haggisfish · 17/01/2011 18:35

She is 7 months old.

My Ds started to around 7/8 months IIRC. I don't think it's a 'developmental milestone' though - there's a wide range of variation.
