DS 21mo sleeps on floor

DS 21 mo has taken to sleeping on the floor at night in the past couple of weeks.

We currently have a low level 3ft childs single with a standard mothercare mattress. On the floor beside it we have a folded over quilt to add some cushioning if (when) he fell out of bed. We never bothered with a bed guard.

Ultimately, I'm not all that worried since he seems to be sleeping ok and he is sleeping through the night even on the floor.

I don't think he is simply falling out of bed, as usually he has grabbed his pillow and favorite toy and has those on the floor too.

One of my friends wondered if he maybe felt unsecure on the bed and thus used the floor. But I think if this was the case he wouldn't let me leave him on the bed when I put him to bed at night.

Has anyone had similar behaviour?

We are treating this as just a phase he is going through and not trying to do anything about it (like remove the quilt on the floor or fitting bed guards).

Ahh, bless.

Our DS was like this too when he went to a toddler bed. It stopped after a while. He seemed very proud of his new bed in daytime and at bedtime, but still seemed to end up in a "home made nest" somewhere on the floor instead.

We didn't worry. And he grew out of it.

You could try a bed guard just to make him feel a bit more secure. DS (now 4) still likes to have one, just at the pillow end of his bed.

I remember doing that too when I was little, I have lots of memories from when I was very little.
I was sure my toys were having fun without me at night. I grew out of it Smile

Yep, same here! Just after DD turned 2 she went through a phase of getting out of bed after I'd gone downstairs and settle self on the floor. Sometimes she would go on the duvet, sometimes just on the carpet! I would go up once she was asleep again to pop some blankets on her.
I think it only lasted 3 or 4 weeks.
I wouldn't worry, just make sure they are warm enough!

Our little girl used to do that as well. In the end I gave up and just let her do it. We put a sheep skin on the floor and she slept on that. She did it for about 6 months
