8 week old dd pulling at her hair and eyes when upset

Hi there,

I am finding it very distressing that my little dd pulls at her hair and scratches at her eyes (makes them red) when she is upset.

When hungry she also shoves her fingers in her mouth so far she sometimes makes herself sick :-( I know she is just experimenting and she can't really express herself, but I hate seeing her do these things.

I have tried gently taking her hands away and holding them firmly, but as soon as I let go, she starts doing it again. Surely it must hurt her :(

Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything u can do at this age to discourage it?

Fairly normal, put socks on her hands for a while and file her nails, she is only very tiny and nothing will discourage at the moment I am afraid, does distraction work?

My ds2 is 17weeks and since birth has tugged really hard at his ear when upset or I don't get to him quick enough.

At the beginning I just put mittens on him but he knows how to take them off now so he continues to tug really hard at his ear.

It's perfectly normal.

My ds1 was born with LOADS of hair and from tiny he'd twiddle his hair around his finger until he got stuck. Lol. Still does it now and he's 21 months.

I just think they all have their little quirks and comforters and looks like your little girl has found hers.

Socks or mittens on her hands is the way forward. At least until she learns to take them off.
