My son, 3.3, is happiest when playing at home with me/dh. Despite my best efforts to help him develop into a social being, he really resists playing with other children. As he is an only child I try to arrange lots of playgroups and trips to the park with friends but he just doesnt seem to want to play. He can be very clingy and wont leave my side, he will also scream if I try to put him down. I am sure other mothers perceive him as "difficult" (one used this word when talking about ds yesterday). I really want to help him make friends, what can I do? He starts pre-school next week and I have visions of him sitting on his own at playtime.

How long was it before your dd began to join in?
