she was making him a window so he could see out.

playing incubators?

couldn't reach over it to play with him?

Just because probably! When I was small I cut a hole in my new blind the day after it was put up. I can clearly remember my parents being both angry and bemused and I had no idea why I had done it other than just to see what it felt like.

Catsmamma · 05/01/2011 16:33

because someone left out the scissors?

sandyballs · 05/01/2011 16:36

How old is she? I'm still furious at my 9 year old carving her name into our pine sideboard and the word poo - yes she's 9, not 3. Angry

sethstarkaddersmum · 05/01/2011 16:42

She's 5 and a half. They were her scissors (just basic children's ones) that Father Christmas gave her for cutting paper etc because I he stupidly assumed she was old enough.

'to see what it felt like' is probably as good an explanation as anything....

I can still remember pushing my finger into the corner of the hallway wall, and feeling a very satisfactory 'pop' as my finger went through the new Laura Ashley wallpaper. Managed to extend the tear up as high as I could reach and it felt goooood. Less good was the discussion with my parents after they spotted it (and I think another corner). Think I'd have been around 10 at the time...

I don't suppose she knows why, she just did. I don't expect she will do it again, not that it is much consolation.

sethstarkaddersmum · 05/01/2011 17:08

well I can see that the side of a travel cot would have been particularly interesting to cut, because of the way the mesh is all taut so it would spring back when you snipped it.

Oh dear God, if you ask yourself why every time they do something like this you'll drive yourself mad!Grin

sethstarkaddersmum · 05/01/2011 18:04

I hope to understand and thus to forgive.
Or just to make sure she doesn't do it again.... other than by hiding all the scissors until she leaves home of course.
