If it makes him happy and he's not using it so much it's affecting his teeth or speech then when he wants seems the right answer to me!

my ex boyfriend had one til he was 12 (aparantly) and his teeth stuck out horrificly at the front - perhaps try to ween him on to a blanket/teddy comforter thing instead? i.e giv it to him with the dummey at all times and gradually take dummey away? it depends how his autism is as i know some of them get very distressed with change, you know him best, if it would distress him to stop it is it really worth it?

I really think you should put this in the special needs area.
FWIW, as long as he is happy and as seeker said, it isn't hampering his teeth and speech go with what feels best.
