Huge tantrum - and now fast asleep!

DS2 is the mildest, calmest little boy ever. He's so easy going he's practically horizontal most of the time. But this afternoon after school (he's nearly 5) he had a HUGE trantrum. He very, very rarely does this. It started over frustration about not being able to draw a picture the way he wanted it to (his pen just wouldn't do what he wanted it to do!). Then it was over a bar of chocolate (long story). Then he hit me outside the shop where chocolate had been purchased but not given. This turned into screaming and shouting for half an hour. I told him to sit in the sitting room and calm down while I made tea. He did. Then he fell asleep! He's still asleep now. Is this normal? This has never happened before!

He sounds like he has just had a full day, last week at school and routines not being followed dont reall help either.
I bet he looks so cute now though.

I think we have all been there at some point.

He looks adorable. He must have known he was going to fall asleep as he found himself a blanket that was by the sofa and he's all wrapped up and fast asleep with his mouth open. I just want to give him the hugest cuddle but don't want to wake him. His tea is cold now too!

We had this with ds a couple of weeks ago, twice in a row and it turned out he had an ear infection.

Sometimes when they are feeling poorly their behaviour goes a bit berserk.

He was unwell last week with a temperature. So I'll keep an eye on him. At least there's only two more days of school :)

My DD is only 2.5 years old but I've noticed that she throws her worst tantrums when she's feeling particularly tired and ill. Also, if she's had a particularly full on emotional day at daycare - that is, something is bothering her or she's had a spat with a fellow child or.... I know there's a vast difference between their ages but...
