When did your baby start crawling?

Ds is 8 months on the button. He sits pretty well, toppling over still sometimes. He is scooting a bit but still not crawling. I know they all reach milestones at a different pace but was wondering if this is pretty normal? I know some babies are walking at 9 months, so was wondering. Thanks in advanceSmile

One of mine was walking at 10months, one of the others only learnt to crawl at 12 months. They really are all different Smile

DS crawled at 8 months but was one of the first in our NCT group (despite being the youngest) so most of them were 9 months + before they crawled.

After he started walking. He wasn't remotely interested in crawling beforehand. He started walking at 10.5mo and shortly after that decided that crawling was ok as well - he was going to gymbabes (the younger version of Tumbletots) and hadn't crawled through the coloured crawl-tube until after he could walk.

Don't worry too much about it.
They are all different, apart from my boys who were exactly the same!
Both crawled at 10 months and walked at 14 months

Galena · 10/12/2010 08:09

DD crawled at 15mo and isn't walking yet at 19mo. However she was 3 months prem.

tinierclanger · 10/12/2010 08:11

22 months :) He just decided to walk first (13 months). Don't worry.

becknnico · 10/12/2010 08:14

Thank you very much everyone!!!

DD1 crawled at 9 months and started pulling herself up on the furniture at the same time. 3 weeks later she was walking.

DD2 Crawled much earlier at 7 months but walked at the same age as DD1 had.

Doesn't mean the ones who crawl earlier are more co-ordinated either. DD2 is a real clutz who, at the age of 12, can trip over her own shadow and is still covered in bruises! Xmas Grin

mawbroon · 10/12/2010 08:33

DS1 crawled at 11mo, pulled up at 15mo and walked at 20mo.

DS2 not yet crawling at 9mo. Looks like he might be the same.

They are supposed to be all different! But I bet mine are the same too SilveryMoon Smile

Rindercella · 10/12/2010 08:37

Don't think crawling is an offical milestone. Some babies never crawl.

DD1 crawled at 8.5 months. DD2 is now 8.5 months and can get from one side of a room to another. Not exactly by crawling, more by a horror film-esque dragging herself. Xmas Grin She'll be properly crawling in the next week or so I would think

She's nearly pulling herself up and I think she'll be a relatively early walker.

QuickLookBusySanta · 10/12/2010 08:40

DD1 never crawled, she wanted to be upright all the time. spent her time in a baby walker, I aways knew where she was.

DD2 rolled over at 5 months, crawled at 7 months and walked at 9months. She was a nightmare!! A lovely one though Xmas Grin

ItsAHollyJollyTee · 10/12/2010 08:42

He still doesn't really crawl. But he walks like a pro! He's 18 months tomorrow.

Mumsnut · 10/12/2010 09:25

Never! Wooden floors meant that the commando shuffle was best bet.

BigTillyMincepie · 10/12/2010 09:27

DD at 9mths, 2 weeks before she started walking Shock

DS at 10mths for about a month before he started walking Smile

BigTillyMincepie · 10/12/2010 09:29

If your DC walked early, are they good at sports?

Just asking because loads of the children that I know who walked early are good at sports.

QuickLookBusySanta · 10/12/2010 10:24

Big my DD2 (walked at 9 mths) is terrible at sports and at primary was usually last in all the racesSad

BigTillyMincepie · 10/12/2010 10:51

Oh, well that disproves my theory for a start!

Mobly · 10/12/2010 11:08

DS1 10mths.

DS2 8.5mths.

Walked at the same time though (11mths). There seems to be no pattern.

Rhian82 · 10/12/2010 11:10

11.5 months. Then started walking about a month later.

dinkystinky · 10/12/2010 11:11

DS1 at 8 months (on christmas day so both sets of grandparents and aunts could spectate Grin)

DS2 at 6.5 months

Friend of mine had a little girl who could speak full sentences at 10 months but only started crawling at 15 months.

Firawla · 10/12/2010 12:53

I don't think 8 months is particularly late @ all to be not crawling
mine were 9.5 months and 10.5 months but the 2nd one still doesnt crawl "properly" its the commando one, i think the average of babies i know is about 9 months? but some a bit earlier like 7 months and some way later, they really vary, i really wouldn't worry about your ds @ 8 months though
9 months is early for walking so i wouldn't base all your milestones too much on that, i know perfectly healthy children not walked til 18 months, anywhere from about 10-15 is within the most common kinda age for walking

notcitrus · 10/12/2010 13:35

Around 10 months, after he started pulling up.

countrylover · 11/12/2010 15:48

DS1 at 9 months
DS2 never! He went strsight to walking .... eventually at 18 months.
