Tantrums to rival Elton in 16 month old

Help,
What age do they start understanding that they have been naughty.
DD this weekend has been a terror.
She has tantrumed over everything. Shes thrown a bowl of food, a yougurt pot at dinner time because she didnt want them.
If I say no she then hits me and throws things.

Is this normal?
I realise that she may get frustrated with not being able to do/have things but today I feel as if shes just cried from one trauma to another.
It just all seems excessive behaviour for a 16 month old.

kbaby, no idea to the answer to that question...but my ds2 started the throwing food, hitting and being a pain about 4 weks ago. Which would have made him 19 months old.

Just kept repeating 'No' to the behaviour we thought was unacceptable and he is now a lot better, with the food throwing and hitting.

However has found about another 100 things to test the boundaries with, which will go on for the next 20 years.

Don't know if that's any help.

Just reading your other sleeping thread - do you think she is tired and grumpy? my ds is fine unless it's getting near nap/bed time - then the smallest thing can set him off.

hmm I hope so. She had a cold and was awake thr Friday night so I am hoping it was worse because of that. Shes been ok this week, in fact an angel. I hope this weekend is better, otherwise ill be volunteering for overtime and leaving her with DH [GRIN]

kbaby: my ds2 has just started the same stage Throwing toys particularly. Threw a SPECTACULAR wobbly in mum & toddler group today because he took 4 biscuits in one go, and mean mummy that I was, refused to let him have more than two! Think I'm in trouble with this child... ds1 was quite a "good" toddler in respect of the tantrumy stage - am probably getting my comeuppance for feeling smug...
