generally she is really good, but the last few nights she just wont settle. tonight she has been screaming on and off for over an hour - I keep going in and cuddling her, she settles, then as soon as I try and put her in her cot she stands up and starts screaming again. she hasnt been ill, but I have tried calpol. I have tried staying in the room with her, but then she just starts wanting to play! as soon as I try to leave the same thing happens. help!

The only thing I can think of is the pick up put down method - providing you have ruled out all of the obvious such as dirty nappy, hungry, pain etc (which from your post it seems you have)

Every time she cries pick her up and lay her back down. Walk out then repeat as much as needed. She'll hopefully tire quicker than you.

it's nicer than ignoring as you are giving comfort but more assertive than cuddling each time.

If possible ignore her crying for slightly longer each time.

HUGS for you as I know how hard it can be.

Oh hen-i remeber my wee girl doing that about the age of 1-came from nowhere and she'd been such a good sleeper! Think it settled quickly after 1-2 wks-think we picked her up and cuddled her until she was settled then put her back down-she always cried again, but I would stand by the cot with one hand on her tummy just for reassurance and she usually quickly calmed and fell asleep-it got shorter and shorter until we could walk out the room when she wAs still awake. Best of luck x

can you leave her be with a toy, book, door open night light on??

My dd is 14moths and sometimes does this too. We will pick her up and cuddle her until shes calm and then UP TO 2 mins more and place her back in her cot with her favourite teddy. When/if she cries then I repeat until shes just too tired to continue and she just rolls over and settles herself. Fortunately she doesnt do it too often - its so exhausting for you - good luck
