Jess is queen of tantrums at the moment, and whenever she really goes into one, she bites her hand so hard it is leaving teeth marks!

She is only 14 months old, and Im so scared when she does it she will realyl hurt herself.... how can i stop her?! I try to pul lher hand away and then she tries to bite me instead.

to be honest she wont hurt herself as such and probably happy she is getting a reaction from you. Just try to distract her rather than pull her hand away, Adam went through a stage of banging his head on purpose but i just ignored it and would chirp on about something else. He soon stopped.

Personally i would ignore it, i think it's an attention thing, my ds done the same as yours nemo he used to bang his head against the wall, and i was sure he was going to do himself damage, in the end i just ignored it and he new he was not getting a reaction and stopped

BunnyBoo · 23/09/2005 20:11

And i am glad to say he did not do himself damage if anything he just made himself more intelligent

My dd1 goes through bouts of this - often for her though it is frustration due to language delays... BUT i simply say - no biting very matter of fact - almsot as an aside - and then ignore her. I found the first time she did it - I made a fuss and that made it worse.

Yes I have also been on the other end of a bite or two from her - again frustration at not being able to do what she wants to do.... I simply do the no biting and put her in her room for a couple of minutes and then say the no biting when she comes out... that is if she tries to bite me.

Yeah would ignore it too, both mine bit themselves but happy to say they grew out of it pretty quickly within a few months but dd was worse than ds.
