Naughty Step / Chill Spot / Time Out for a 7yo?

Is 7, nearly 8, too old for this?

It used to work. Now dd sometimes spends most of a 2-3h block on it. And she throws anything she can reach.

We're at our wits' ends - and our tethers' ends!

The irony is that she usually works out why she was sent, what she should have done and what she needs to do, and comes back to sort it out - all by herself; yet minutes later she's doing the same thing again.

we stop ds from doing something he likes, ie playing on the ps2 for a few days,

'Punishments' don't seem to work. They just seem to make her more aggrieved and angry, they don't change her behaviour.

in my mind timeout is more of a toddler/young child thing but different things suit different children. How does she respond to calm discussions and rewards? What sort of things is she sent to her room for? Is she sent to her room knowing why she was sent and with prior warnings? Sorry for the 101 questions- just wondering.
