This probably isn't much help, but mine started biting her nails at 18 months. She's now 5 and she stopped with no difficulty when I said she could have a nail file if she could go for a week without biting them. However, having received her prize, she went right back to biting them Hmm.

But I guess I just don't think it's really a problem. And definitely not a problem that it's worth trying to solve with a 20-month-old!

DS started nail biting at 18 months - just after he stopped using a dummy. I really didnt make much of an issue with it other than to say to him that he may get germs from biting his nails, which may make him sick/sore tummy etc.

Needless to say, he did end up with tummy upsets over the following year and he did stop biting them :-)

I think its really important at this age not to make an issue about any negative behaviour and carry on praising the good stuff.
