Do (or did) your kids call you "mummy"?

And if it's did, at what age did they stop?

dd1 and dd2 call me mummy (aged 8 and 6), but I've noticed that they are unusual among their peers. I called my mum and dad mummy and daddy until I was about 15 or 16!

i think ds1 calls me mum more often than mummy now. especially in school playground. but i dont think its a consious decision.

hoxtonchick · 22/09/2005 08:51

my ds, who's 3.8, calls me mum more often than mummy .

edam · 22/09/2005 08:57

Yes (he's two). And still call my mother mummy if I'm addressing her directly - she won't have any alternatives (she called her mother 'mum', lost her at a young age and never wanted the title to be transferred). Still call my father daddy to his face as well - can't shake it think because of calling my mother mummy. Although think it sounds desperately twee for an adult.

Ds and dd used to - ds converted to Mum and Dad when he was about 2 and a half, ds when she was just 2

eefs · 22/09/2005 09:07

DS1 - mammy or a weird american sounding "maommy", not sure where he got that.

DS2 - MA MAMAMAMAMA at the top of his voice until I can no longer ignore him.

colditz · 22/09/2005 09:08

My ds calls me mummy, he is 2.5 and I stubbornly refuse to be called mum until he goes to school.

Bozza · 22/09/2005 09:10

DS has just started reception and I am still clinging onto mummy for the time being although mum creeps in sometimes. DD is very much of the mmuuummeeeee brigade especially when she wants getting out of her cot.

edgetop · 22/09/2005 09:27

my ds still calls me mummy,he has just started school so i dont know how long it will last,as long as he still tells me he loves me its fine what ever he calls me.

CarolinaMoon · 22/09/2005 09:27

Edam, you're not the only one . My parents would never accept "mum" and "dad" (too casual for them, I think - they are quite formal).

After years trying to avoid calling them anything, I've now taken to calling them Grandma and Grandpa for ds's benefit. All a bit pathetic for a 30 year old .

tarantula · 22/09/2005 09:28

I still call mine Mammy and Daddy. Dss calls dp dad when hes talking about him but often lapses int daddy esp as I say 'go ask your daddy' in responce to most queries (passing the buck? moi?)DD calls me mammy or mama if she wants an answer I dont like being called mum.

bonym · 22/09/2005 09:28

Dd1 is 7 and calls me mum more often than mummy. Daddy is still daddy though!
Dd2 is too little to call me anything yet

geekgrrl · 22/09/2005 09:29

I still call my mum 'mummy'

mine call me 'mama' and dh is 'papa' (German version)

Monstersmum · 22/09/2005 09:30

DS (4) still calls me Mummy occasionally "Mom" as in "yeah Mom, whatever"! NO idea where it came from!

Although I am Irish and always wanted to be a "Mammy"!!

coppertop · 22/09/2005 09:31

Ds1 (5) called me "mummy" up until about halfway through the first term in Reception. I suppose he picked it up from the other children at school. For some reason it made him sound all grown-up all of a sudden.

Ds2 is 2 and still calls me "mummy".

Iklboo · 22/09/2005 09:32

Think I was about 6 when I asked my parents to stop putting "mummy & daddy" on birthday/Christmas cards because I thought it sounded babyish. Never thought about how they felt of course - horrid child!

noddyholder · 22/09/2005 09:34

Ds is 11 and still calls me mummy Why would he stop?He doesn't show any signs of stopping calls dp daddy too!I love it

RTKangaMummy · 22/09/2005 09:35

I still call mine mummy and daddy and am 39

DS still calls us mummy and daddy and he is 10 years

Enid · 22/09/2005 09:46

dd1 calls me mummy but occassionally now mum (shes nearly 6)

dd2 calls me mama which I like

basketcase · 22/09/2005 09:50

DD1 (4yrs) muuuuuuuuuum - preferably very loud with a slight whine...

DD2 says mumma which I love

I called my parents mum and dad from early age. I remember hearing a teenage friend use "mummy" and started copying her - my mum hated it, saying it sounded snobby ( "mummy darling" and "mummy dearest" type thing) so switched back. She still says that "mummy" said by anyone over ten sounds rather "southern" and "snobby" - don?t agree with her by the way

RTKangaMummy · 22/09/2005 10:12

Basketcase I am southern

{sussex coast so can't get much further south}

and I guess I must be a snob too

MrsMills · 22/09/2005 12:57

I am Mammy to my 5 year old ds
and Mamamama to 18 months old ds.

I will get upset when I will be Mam, but it is only a matter of time.

Hulababy · 22/09/2005 13:01

DD is still young (3 and half) and calls me mummy most of the time. She does say mum soemtimes, but knows she isn't supposed to.
