Do (or did) your kids call you "mummy"?

And if it's did, at what age did they stop?

dd1 and dd2 call me mummy (aged 8 and 6), but I've noticed that they are unusual among their peers. I called my mum and dad mummy and daddy until I was about 15 or 16!

I tried to get them to call me Mommy, because that's what I called my mother, but wouldn't have been surprised if they had called me Mammy as we live in Ireland. However, for some strange reason they all call me Mummy. Although my eldest has started calling me Mam just to annoy me.

lyra41 · 23/09/2005 21:36

Mine both call me Mum and get embarrassed if I refer to "Daddy" - it's Dad, Mum!

DS 13, DD 10.

toothyboy · 23/09/2005 21:43

My mum calls her parents mummy and daddy, and she's 63 - does she win? I call my parents mum and dad. Ds calls me and dp mummy and daddy, but he's only 2.5.

antibes · 23/09/2005 22:20

am mummy to mine or more often first name! Mine is still 'Mummy' to me. I never thought it was strange until I was about 16 and friend said she thought I was taking the mickey for calling my mother 'Mummy'.

mummylonglegs · 23/09/2005 22:29

My dd (3) calls me:

mummy
mummylummy
mummymumsters
mummymummymonster
mummoo
maman

But mostly just mum

lucy5 · 23/09/2005 22:33

Dd calls us mama and dada, shes 4.9. hopefully never anything else!
I call mine, mum and dad.
Dh called his, mother and father.

puffparphooter · 23/09/2005 22:40

They both (age 2 and 4) call me Mummy. Ds2 calls my sister Mum (she looked after him for 3 nights a few months ago, and he copies her children ).

chipmonkey · 23/09/2005 22:42

Dh and I are "Mammy" and "Daddy" to the ds's. I called my mum " Mammy" until I was 10 when I started calling her "Mummy" becuase that's what my English cousin called her mum and I thought it sounded more refined! . I call her "Mum" now.

nightowl · 24/09/2005 01:45

ds (8) is 50/50, sometimes its "mom", sometimes "mommy" (usually when his friends arent about).

dd (20 months) calls me mimmy. its cute, i like it.

nightowl · 24/09/2005 01:53

it isnt the accent sassy, its just a different word. we dont pronounce "sum" as "som" and "bun" isnt "bom" either....its really hard to get a card with "mom" on it though...spend ages looking for them...imagine there would be plenty in america.

nightowl · 24/09/2005 01:55

bon even...im thinking of bums arent i?

NomDePlume · 24/09/2005 11:46

Mom & Mommy is a midlands thing too.

mumeeee · 24/09/2005 20:36

My 18 and 15 year old have only recently stopped calling me Mummy. My 13 year old has called me Mum since she was about 5.

aprilmeadow · 25/09/2005 09:22

I still call my parents Mummy and Daddy and I am 24. By brother (22) and sister (18) stopped ages ago and take the mickey out of me, buit to me it sounds odd calling them Mum and Dad.

My DH says that our ds can call him Daddy until he goes to school and then can move to dad. I am quite happy to let him and any future children call me Mummy for as long as they want to.

trinityrocks · 25/09/2005 10:56

my 5 yr old stared mum instead of mummy when she was about 4, I was quite sad if I'm honest, I like mummy

MarsLady · 25/09/2005 11:02

yup! DS1 is almost 13 and still calls me mummy

tallulah · 25/09/2005 11:38

I stopped calling my parents mum and dad in my teens and called them Mother and The Fat One . Also used to call my dad Antbin for some reason (he was a Tony).

DD, the eldest, went to an independent secondary school so all her friends said mummy and daddy & she never went to mum and dad. The younger ones then just copied her. My mum doesn't like it and always talks to the children about "mum and dad" which sounds all wrong. DD started calling her father pappa or pa in recent years

Ds3 is resisting and has started calling us Ma and Da. (don't know where Da came from!)

I don't know why but I can't bear mum.

Tortington · 26/09/2005 01:32

my eldest is 15 and still calls me mummy when he wants something

purpleturtle · 26/09/2005 08:23

I called my parents Mummy and Daddy until one day in my early teens my mum said I could call them Mum and Dad now, if I liked. So they've been Mum and Dad ever since.

Dd and ds call me Mummy, and I pretty much don't answer to anything else.

suedonim · 26/09/2005 21:35

30yo ds phoned last night and said 'Hello Mummy!'

lucy01 · 27/09/2005 14:27

I'm 38 and still call my mummy "mummy" - maybe I'm just underdeveloped!

PrettyCandles · 27/09/2005 14:41

Another underdeveloped one here! Though generally only when I'm either talking to them or refering to them in conversation with my borther or sister.

Ours (5 and 2)call us Mummy and Daddy, but they also use other versions from tiem to time - recently dh has been getting used to 'Dee-da-da-loo-lah'.

Harrizeb · 28/09/2005 16:50

'Nother underdeveloped one here too

DS 2.3 started calling me by my name rather than Mummy, and said Daddy first, although we're Mummy and Daddy now. Not sure how long this will continue as were we live he will be picked on for using Mummy & Daddy so may have to encourage Mum & Dad before he starts school.

serenity · 28/09/2005 17:02

I call my Mum 'Mum',and 'Mother' if I'm trying to wind her up

DS1 (7) uses Mummy and Daddy
DS2 (5) uses Mama and Daddy
DD (23 mths) used to say Mummit and Daddit, but it's more often Mummy and Daddy now (but I prefer the first!)

Passionflower · 28/09/2005 18:10

DD's (5, 3 & 18m) call us mummy amd daddy, I can't see it changing as DD1 goes to private all girls school (as will DDs 2 & 3)and that seems to be the mode of address there.

I call my DM mum, oddly my DF is always referred to as daddy in conversation (he died when I was 25)and I can't remember whether I used to call him dad or not! stange huh. DM is granny or nanny to the DD's and DF is referred to as pop.

MIL however insists on mother! Eughhh, even signs DH's birthday card this way. FIL is dad. They are grandma and grandpa to the DD's.
