Nearly 18 mths - naps!!

Can anyone help?

DD sleeps 8/ 8.30pm to 8am (I know quite late but suits us).

Typical day she will have a nap from 11.30 to 1pm, then have her lunch. Supper at 6 to 6.45 ish, Bath 7 to 7.30 ish then jamas story and bed.

But lately she has been dropping her nap and pushing through till after lunch, and isn't tired till about 4 pm, when she is absolutely knackered and wants to fall asleep for 90 mins. Of course that means she wakes up at 5.30pm and doesn't want to go to bed!

Any ideas? Is she in the process of dropping her nap altogether Confused Hope not!

Thanks
Bumps x

She could be trying to drop her nap but 8am to 8.30pm is a very long time for an 18mth old to go without a nap tbh, I think in your shoes I would try letting her have 30 - 60 mins I'd try putting her down for a nap about 3pm before she gets overtired and early enough she should hopefully go to bed on time. hth

Try putting her to bed after lunch - 1pm-3pm - she may seem like she doesn't want to go earlier, but my DD wouldn't go if left up to her.

I agree try a lunchtime nap. I would never let my Dc sleep any later than 3.30pm otherwise they will be up alot later in the evening. If she has dropped her nap you will need to put her to bed alot earlier my Dd did this and sometimes she was in bed at 6.30pm.It does mean that they wake earlier. TBH she sounds like a fantastic sleeper you probably just need to change your routine a little.

Yes, I would say she needs a nap still, just not at 11.30 which is rather early if you've only got up at 8 :)

Actually, my DD only gave up her 2 nap schedule at around 18 months, she would sleep 10-11 or so (having been up at 6/7) and then 2-3 or so. This then changed to 12-2 or something a bit like that. These days it's 1-2.30 (she's just turned 2).

Think you need to tweak the schedule rather than give up nap. DD tried to give up nap a week or so ago which I wasn't happy about. Instead I made sure she had a good walk before lunch, made lunch a bit later and put her down at 1 rather than 12.30. So far it's worked :).

Hope she's sleeping again soon!

Yes, 11.30am does seem early for a nap, if she only woke at 8am. She's obviously just not tired then.

22month old DS sleeps from 7-7 and naps from 12-2. Maybe try putting her down after lunch, so she has a full tum, at about 1-ish.

It will cut into your afternoon quite a bit, but if she wakes at 8am, I think you do need to factor in that she will need a decent amount of time awake before she'll be tired enough to be able to nap.

I'd try a nap after lunch too. My DS is also almost 18 months and goes down between 12 and 1 and usually sleeps 2 - 3 hours. I'd 'walk' her after lunch and put her about 1, considering she wakes later than DS.

Thanks very much everyone - very helpful.

We are now doing lunch earlier then a little walk down the lane, and then she is tired! Smile She has been sleeping 1.30 to 3 and then is OK to sleep at 8 ish.
