10 year old DS, Easily frustrated and angry with himself!

My DS is 10 and gets hugely angry and frustrated (always has but it's getting worse) at just about everything these days. He doesn't throw things or hurt others but cries and shouts and bites himself on the forearm to stop himself lashing out. He expects to be able to do new things instantly and homework! In his view it should be done in a flash or he gets distressed and calls himself an idiot.

He has a low opinion of himself (does this always go hand in hand with angry personalities I wonder) but I've no idea where that comes from as he does well at school and we encourage him and have always praised him. Any ideas on anger management? Or other suggestions?

I'm starting to react angrily to him and I veer from thinking we are too strict to not strict enough. He gets time out, banned from electronics, but can't seem to control himself or take help from us. We parents are at an all time low. Any suggestions welcome. thanks

The book Volcano in my Tummy might be a good call. Heck, I will send you my copy for price of postage because it's really not the right thing for my DS.

You have to work on anger when he's calm, because it's really impossible to communicate with someone when they're already in a temper. Proaction is the answer.

I've got some tools I used for my ds on managing his anger. PM me if you're interested.
