My DS's are 8 and 9 and are becoming more and more obsessed with video type games - FIFA 11 and computer games like moshi monsters / robolox...etc

I feel really unhappy about this and always try to limit time on the computer / PS - how do other parenst deal with this stuation...?

TIA

Our ds 6 has always preferred things like tv, ds, wii etc. I feel the same as you about them. We do limit his time on them by using an egg timer set at 20 minutes and he usually only goes on 1 or 2 of them each day.

The other side of it is making a huge effort to find activities that I want to get him involved in and putting up with the moaning/grumbling until he allows himself to enjoy it... We also spend a lot of time setting up his toys etc to encourage him to play them on his own or with us.Obviously ds is younger than your two boys...

I dont think there is anything wrong with computers etc but I do think that some children are losing the ability to interact and play on a basic level without expecting the same level of interest/fun/graphics etc which is immediately available on computer games IYSWIM.

We have also recently introduced a games time 30 minutes before bed where we switch off everything and play a board game together.

What else are your ds's into? Is this a recent thing?
