DS3 hates toothpaste!!

DS3 is refusing to brush his teeth/have his teeth brushed with toothpaste on toothbrush. I've tried forcing the issue, trying to reason with him (talk about dentist etc). Tonight we've ended up brushing with water alone, is that good enough?? Prob not?? I've bought loads of different flavours of toothpaste. Going to try get strawberry tomoro Blush. I'm worried he'll get cavities etc. Or maybe it's just a difficult stage!!

Any suggestions?? Anyone have same experience??

Ah yes it is hard. We found sonic toothbrushes helped because they get more brushing in before they run away. And fennel toothpaste. Mind you, the mild mint ones seem to go down pretty well.

Both of my DCs hated mint toothpaste until they were about 10.

We bought the strawberry flavoured ones until they eventually got to grips with it. No harm done, both have perfectly healthy teeth.

The Dentinox stuff that comes with a finger toothbrush is good. How old is DS? If he's old enough to reason with then you could point out that there'll be no sweets, juice or any treats unless he brushes!

Daughter hated minty toothpaste so we used strawberry one from health food shop, that together with a battery powered pink princess toothbrush and me timing her brushing using the stopwatch on my mobile worked! All a bit of a faff but now she's 6 and using grown up toothpaste no problem - the transition made recently after a visit to the dentist where a word from him put her on track, she listened to him more than me! Good luck.

He is 3, toothy fruity toothpaste worked (for now!). Thanks for suggestions esp. timing him and finger toothbrush. Smile
