This sleeping is a subject that I go round and round on - or lack of sleep. My 5 and half month old DS is not a great sleeper. Although settles himself for short naps and at bedtime, wakes up throughout night for his dummy (another thread!!!) and for a feed about midnight ish. However, he seems to wake about 5 and I have got into the habit of putting him in bed with me, due to lack of sleep during night. He's not really in a deep sleep at this time and so even in my bed I have to keep popping dummy back in wehn falls out. Should i try giving him another feed about 5 am or does 2 feeds at this age seem too much especially when its meant to be getting less not more!!!!!!

I have no advice or constructive comments apart from you are not alone. My 7 month old still feeds at least twice a night - often more.
For me personally I am waiting before she ups her solid intake some more and then I will address the feeding at night issue (if I have the strength!)

It's a difficult age because they do get hungry if you follow the guideline for weaning at 6 months old. I remember increasing the feeding (I was BF) my two boys at that age, they needed more feed during the day and also more feed at night.

I think that if he would fall back asleep after the 5 am wake up, and give you another couple of hours in bed, maybe you should do it.

It will be short lived as he should be able to go longer without milk at night once he is on solids.

My dd was still having at least two feeds a night at 9.5 months, so personally I wouldn't worry about trying to keep him on one.

god, i dream of only 2 feeds a night and ds3 is 17 months! lol

My 5 month old Ds wakes twice a night for feeds and is in my bed from about 5 too. It's not a problem for us. I have had people say that if his weight is good, then try giving him only water at night time to discourage him waking up. But I am planning on waiting and seeing if solids help sort him out.

Hi my DS1 is 8.5months old and is still taking 2 feeds per night, sometimes only 1. We are into weaning too - but I am not overly concerned about the night feeds. I did try to give him water on a few occasions, but he wasn't having any of it! SOmetimes only milk will do :)

hi there.Do you think he really is hungry at 5am or do you want to feed him so he'll have a nice full tum and go back to sleep?
You will be weaning him soon so even if you do feed him twice in the night you will be able to stop it soon.

My DS is 6 months and we have just dropped the dreamfeed. His last feed is at 6:30pm ish and his next feed is at 7am ish,but he is only hungry now that he has dropped the dreamfeed. So if he wakes up I know he isn't hungry.

Re the dummy...about 6 weeks ago our nights went up the spout and I was putting the dummy in several times a night. As the nights were crap anyway I ditched the dummy....and since then he has slept through (obviously not all night every night but about 90 percent of the time).I was crapping myself about doing it but it was actually easy and he learnt to settle by himself.

So....if it makes your life easier for a bit then feed him.Anything for more sleep!
