does anyone else find this with their child? 4 year old ds has just spent 2 weeks being almost perfect, then overnight becomes horrible to be around, shouty, rude, frequently winding up ds2, won't take no for an answer. This will usually last longer than the good times. When he is going through a good patch i am actually slightly anxious about things being bad again, i know i shouldnt feel like this but its only because it always go this way. Any advice/experience welcome!

Yes, yes, yes!!!!! We are living parallel lives! My 4 year old is doing exactly the same. The good times last hours and the bad times last days. I have no tips or advice, but wanted you to know you are far from alone x

My 4yo DS is the same... he is like two different boys - lovely, caring and polite for a few hours, then impossible for a few days!

I have read that 4yo boys get a surge of testosterone at around this time, so that might help to explain it. Also big changes such as starting school can really affect them. My DS is much worse when tired, so we have had to start bedtime hour earlier (though sometimes he just wakes up in this mood and it lasts all day!).

I find when I can give DS one-on-one attention (doing puzzles, reading etc) this really helps to engage him and calm him down - but not easy with other DCs I know!
