Waking every hr/hr and half for dummy - when will he find it himself?

My 5 and half month DS loves his dummy, ut has got into the habit of waking every hour or hour and a half to have it put back in. Do I just wait for him to learn to find it himself - how long will that be? Else do we go 'cold turkey' and take it away completely - this just seems really mean as he loves it as a comforter! Thoughts gratefully received as sleep deprivation is becoming worse and my going to bed at 8pm to try and keep up is causing great problems in my relationship!!!!

fill his cot full of dummies. He'll find one of them.

My friend did this... filled her DS's cot with about eight- ten dummies so he could always find one. it seemed to work :)

DS learned to find his dummy at around 7.5 months

I bought a clip and clipped it to Ds pj's!

Now looking back I'd suggest getting rid now! Ds is 2 now and will happily have his dummy all day long if I'd let him! Seems meaner to take it away now though.....

I got one of these. It took DS about 3 nights, and then the nightime dummy runs were gone forever. Its been an absolute godsend. www.amazon.co.uk/Sleepytot-Sleepytot2-Baby-Comforter/dp/B001FXDUB2 It washes well too.
