Is finger sucking in a 4+ year old going to cause problems with her teeth?

I would guess it is a possibility that teeth could be affected but other factors would be relevent such as how long she spends doing the sucking each day and does she continue to do it as she gets older and gets second set of teeth through.

At 4+ yrs a child should really be going for regular dental checks in any case. If there was any signs of dental changes due to sucking then these could be detected early and acted upon.

Hiya, just thought I'd dip in because I sucked my left index finger as a child and never stopped; still do it as an adult! It's not caused any problems apart from a minor overbite of a few mm. I never had it corrected since it's unnoticeable and braces would've been worse than a tiny overbite. I'd say don't worry, just get your dentist to keep an eye on it.
