Too much sleep?!

My DS, 17mo, finally slept through the night when he was 11 months with a 1.5/2hr afternoon nap and has done so ever since; however in the past fortnight I have a very strange issue (one that many people may dream of, I am aware of that!) but am getting a bit concerned. He is sleeping solidly from 7pm and not waking until after 9am - once last week he did til 10.30am at which point I woke him. He is also then sleeping from 1 - 4.30 in the afternoon, a real super-nap, again -I have had to wake him. He is like a whirling dervish when he is awake, a normal busy toddler, but all this sleep, could it be a growth spurt? or should I be taking him to the doctor? or should I stop fussing and just enjoy it while it lasts?!

My 2.2 year old did this for a while over the summer ie going to bed at 7.30pm and often not waking till 9/9.30ish the next morning. He also had a couple of hours in the afternoon too. It was nice as he wasn't naturally a great sleeper when he was little but I actually started to get a bit worried and would lie there willing him to wake up! Anyway, I had him weighed by the HV at the beginning of July and then again recently at his 2 yr check - turns out he's put on over 2 kilos in weight in 3 months (Loads considering he has a very small appetite) Plus all his trousers are now too short. So basically what i'm saying is if he seems generally happy and well then it's probably a growth spurt so enjoy the lie ins while you can - we're back to 7am (at best) wake up calls now! Smile
