Just this week it all seems to have "clicked" - ie that choosing to read rather than just having to read can be fun. Today when she came in from school she went straight to the bookcase and got out a book which she read with no help, then sat with me to read her homework book, and begged to read on beyond what she had been asked to read! I am so pleased for her - dh, dd1 and I are absolute devourers of books and I felt sad that she was missing out. She has embarked upon a whole world of pleasure, bless 'er

that's great! i too "devour" books and LOVED reading as a child... hope ds does too!

It's lovely to watch her - previously she found it such a chore. She got particularly frustrated because dd1 found learning to read completely effortless, and she's had to work a bit harder to get to this stage - putting in effort goes against her principles

what age can I look forward to this at?

I have had reading battle with DS1 tonight, he doesn't see the point of why he needs to read.

Well dd2 is 6, but I think she's "ahead" of her peers. But dd1 was only 4 when she learnt to read independently, so can't really compare! Sorry not much help Eve.
