so my son is 6 months and a week and we started him on baby rice a month ago because of his reflux and wanting to help prevent him vommitting so much. well it worked but he is still so uninterested in food and today for example again refused breakfast lunch and dinner given 3 or 4 options that he has eaten in the past. as we should be moving to stage 2 theoretically as we started weaning early i am a bit worried as he has not shown any real interest in any of the food he has tried so far. what shall i do? today with no food and only milk his reflux vommitting was back in full force and i was mopping up sick most of the day. I feel like I am going backwards not progressing and not sure what the implications will be later if I cannot even get him interested in purees. any advice much appreciated

At 6 months, milk should form the vast, vast majority of his intake.

If he's not interested, he's not interested. He won't associate food with hunger for another few months yet, so milk will be what he wants if he's hungry.

Look up Baby Led Weaning. There's no worry about 'Stages' or any pressure on what or how much he's eating.

It may just be that he's not quite ready for solids...?

have you tried gaviscon for the reflux? if that doesnt work ther are lots of other meds that work too. We tried to wean my DD early for the same reason and it just caused lots of stress for us and her as she just wasn't interested. In the end gave up and jsut sat her at the table with us at meal times with some of whatever we were having on her tray - she didnt really start eating any until at least 8 months, but by the time she was 1 she was eating jsut as much as those htat had weaned early!

I would agree about looking at blw and about the importance of milk. Have you been advised to wean early by a pediatrition? They may be able to advise you better if so...eg maybe it's worth thinking of the baby rice differently to the rest of the food as it's nutritionaly not great but does serve a purpose with reflux, if that makes sense? There is a weaning board on here that is great esp the (really long) blw thread.

Best wishes [hsmile]

tillymama thank you so much, yep found the BLW section on the site AWESOME!! I'm headed in thata direction for sure. So great I can still give him the boob and not feel i'm depriving him of the food experience. You made me feel much better as a first time mum on my own sometimes its all a bit overwhelming

hi fairimum (nice name by the way)
Doc never really pointed us toward the gaviscon route, I use a remedy from Weleda which really helped and I did notice a massive improvement with baby rice. Also go to craneal osteopathy which he loves. Decided to chillax and go the BLW route and see what happens.

moonface (aww love that name) thanks for your kind words I really felt them. I think its an excellent piece of advise to see baby rice in the reflux camp and separate from the food and weaning. Have found the BLW and feel very upbeat and excited to try something new.

Hi ts71 - just a word of encouragement - BLW has worked very well for our DD, certainly worth considering!
