Stranger Danger

Anyone got a recommendation for a good book to use to help teach my 5 year old about stranger danger?

He would learn better through a fictional story and then we can talk about how to apply it to his life.

I wouldn't use one if I were you, you don't want to fill them with fear, of course they need to be careful but most people are nice and could actually help in a emergency.

I think the whole 'stranger danger' thing is blown so out of proportion with the real risks and it's more like 'friend or family member danger'

Just a personal opinion, sorry I can't help.

They should teach it in school - you could ask the teacher and see if they have books at school he could look at. I think they do it in reception and more in depth in Yr 1.

That was totally my point of view too, but there have been two incidents of children being asked to get in cars in my neighbourhood outside local schools.

He already knows what to do it we get separated but want to gently introduce him to the idea that if someone offers to do something kind, like give you sweets, give you a ride home in the car, etc etc, it is OK to say no and walk away to the nearest 'safe' person - (lollipop lady, back into school etc etc).

Oh I miss the Charlie says adverts - can't imaging what ds would say if I told him 'you've been very good, here have an apple' though :)

Thanks for the link.

I've just found a book called The Bernestein bears learn about strangers - ordered it and will have a look through to see if it will do the trick.
