19 month old terrified of new puppy

Yesterday we got a puppy - 8 week old labrador. He's gorgeous and ds (8) has been asking for "a puppy or a brother" all year (household mainly full of women..).
Baby normally never cries all day - so happy and confident. Also loves the cat. She's been really clingy, scared and a bit jealous. Dh works away so this week I'm on my own. I've never had dogs before so would really appreciate any ideas about how to get baby to be a bit happier about the new puppy.

Hi Swedishmum, have I read this correctly, you're DD is 8 years old ? If not I'm sorry - usually our instinct is to help would she warm if she helped to look after the puppy and see that he needs her ?

don't really know to be honest but hope this helps
