Ds is 6 1/2 months and still not sitting up on his own. He does roll over occasionally but not that often. Is this a problem?? Sad

absolutely not Grin

perfectly normal.

some babies are sitting on their own at 6 months, some aren't.

please don't worry about this - he'll get there. If he's still not sitting up in about three, four months time, maybe worry then

Iamcountingto3 · 19/10/2010 16:41

can't hurt to have a word with the HV, but neither of mine sat reliably until more like 7 months. Both now totally normal Grin
Apparently, it's a milestone that is getting later because babies sleep on backs rather than tummies now (so don't spend so much time strengthening core/stomach muscles.

Neither of mine did till 8 months. It was annoying cos they rolled and then crawled everywhere. I was jealous of the ones who moved later but sat up early. Their mums could just plonk them somewhere with toys.

Dont worry, he has plenty of time! I always worried with my second as she did everything late (compared to her older brother) but she got there in the end.

Don't worry about it. I have known a few babies who haven't sat uptil one and a half years and still been perfectly normal toddlers.

purepurple · 19/10/2010 17:23

DS didn't sit up till about 8 months. He just fell over, but he could crawl and was walking at 10 months.
They are all different.

becknnico · 19/10/2010 18:03

okay, thats refreshing! I can tell it wont be long. I actually slacked on "tummy time" as well in the early months because he hated it so much. I do however put him on his belly quite often now, and he is fine. Thanks everyone!Smile

Yep.. 7 months in one case.. a couple of weeks off it in the other case.. My DN was at least 8 months.. he definitely has no physical problems now!

Galena · 19/10/2010 19:59

HV told me if baby isn't sitting at all by 9 months they start looking into it, but not panicking! DD was 10 months, but as she was premature she was the equivalent of 7 months so fine.

BudaisintheZONE · 19/10/2010 20:01

My DS was 8 months. He hated tummy time too!

NoahAndTheWhale · 19/10/2010 20:08

DS was 7.5 months then crawled at 8.5 months and has never been still again since (7 next month).

Have to admit that DD who sat at 6 months and then didn't move until 10.5 months was easier in some ways Grin

I kind of wish my 7 month old son had waited a little longer to sit, he's now giving me palpitations every time he topples over. Hmm

6-8 months was what we were told was the norm. so well within limits
