To the other mothers of toddlers out there what time do you tend to put them to bed?? My ds goes up at 7.30 and then i get him changed and read to him so he's generally left to go to sleep around 8. But he started waking up in the early hours a few months ago and am wondering if i should make the bed time a bit later, maybe taking him up at 8 instead.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I think when they get overtired or over stimulated they can find it harder to sleep. I've definately found that with my ds (2.5yrs) if he goes to bed at normal time (7-7.30pm) and settles quickly he sleeps through. If we've been out and about doing something (just every now and then) and he doesnt get to bed until 9pm or later he will wake a few times in the night crying.

i think in the past i just made the mistake of thinking he needed to go to bed later rather than earlier.

i celebrated to soon. he was awake at 3:20 this morning and after over an hour of being put back to bed finally fell back to sleep.

Could he be cold. My excellent sleeper has started waking early

cep · 19/10/2010 07:51

not sure to be honest, he has a duvet which i make sure covers him before i go to sleep, which ofcourse doesn't mean that he doesn't kick it off. he's got nursery today so hopefully that with lack of sleep will help him sleep through tonight.

I think my son is cold but the heating/water starting in morning wakes him!

What do you do when he wakes early ? My dp goes in and says go back to sleep it's still nighttime. Often works

My dd has been waking cold, have put her back in grobag, lastnight she had pjs, fleece baby grow, grobag and duvet first night she hasn't woken in weeks!

i might put him in a vest, we haven't had a grobag since he was a baby so haven't got that option. i've kept socks on him though.

i've tried loads of things i know i've made it worse cause i had at times sat with him, read to him and basically gave loads of attention without even thinking about it. so have stopped that now. i just put him back to bed now and say it's early go back to sleep. but in his words "i don't like it, sleep" :) last night just ignored the crying and put him back into bed when he got out.
