How to teach DD to wipe her own bottom.

DD is 4.5 and has just started school. She always refused to have a poo at nursery (was only there 15 hours per week) and I've always done it at home.

I know I've made a rod for my own back but, in my defence y'honour, DD has suffered with chronic constipation pretty much since weaning and has been on various meds since the age of eight months or so. Because of this pooing has always been painful for her and often results in tears and pretty sticky poos.

Since she's started school she has tried to wipe her own bottom at school but is not being very effective. We've taught her to wipe front to back but she is smearing it up her back. I'm going to get her some wet toilet wipes to take to school to help.

Does anyone have any superwiping tips or is it just a case of practice and poo smeared pants?

I had the same with my DS2. You just have to try and teach her and put up with the whiffy pants (which I found very very hard). Sorry I can't be of more help.

If it's any consolation, he's OK now he's gone to secondary school (yes, it really has taken that long).

Thanks. I had a sinking feeling that was the the only answer. Sigh.
