Is this a tic? What is my DD doing?

Today I noticed my DD1 (3.6) licking her fingers before scratching her legs, back etc. She did this many times within the space of about 5 minutes. I've never seen her do this before, but when I asked her she says she does it 'all the time'. She says when she itches somewhere, the itchy place needs water as well as scratching.

Is this the beginning of a tic? It's a bit upsetting!

Thanks for any views.

I doubt it, I think her explanation is ok isn't it? Kids are odd, sure it will pass. Just ignore it as drawing attention to it will make it worse.

don't worry about it....mine used to repeat thelast word of her sentence under her breath...so "Mummy, can I have a biscuit" then a whispered "biscuit".

She did it for a month and stopped. It's quite normal to get odd little things like that.

My dd used to blink constantly - it drove me bonkers! They have odd little behaviours at that age.

Maybe get her tell you when she's itchy and you could put a bit of cream on it?

missmoopy · 13/10/2010 22:06

Ignore it. Don't offer cream or you will end up putting cream on every tiny little itch.

Thanks. I think I'll try and ignore because she hates any kind of cream. I hope that it will not keep recurring! It was after her bath today so maybe her skin was particularly itchy.

Maybe the soap is irritating her?

She didn't use any soap, but even the hot water sometimes makes her itch, I think. I hope that's all it was!
