SALT at preschool has identified 'bumpiness' in my 3 year old's speech

Our little boy is 3.3 yrs.

I mentioned this thing he does to his key worker when we started preschool 3 weeks ago. We have also noticed he starts some sentences with 'my-my-my-my-my-car is over there....' repitition, but once he's got into his sentence he's fine.

I was concerned but after reading lots of posts on here decided not to panic and it's probably just a developmental leap - he did talk later than his big brother and his speech and vocabulary is really coming on - maybe a case of brain working over time?

I was asked to wait behind at pick-up time yesterday to talk to the speech therapist, she was very nice and told me not to worry but asked if I'd like him monitored, I said yes, then we arranged for me to come in for a chat in two weeks time...

If there are any SALTs on today, can you please advise me on what the next steps are and if I should indeed be worried? Will there be a formal assessment? Is this a common precursor to stammering?

Help! Have been in tears since!
