My two and a half year old has been stammering for two months, just wondering if i should get professional advice or if this is a normal phase?

There's some info here. I thought the bit about the child thinking that ignoring it means her speaking problems are unmentionable/shameful was a different p.o.v I hadn't considered.

My DS1 did it around the 2-2.5 year mark - we just gave him time to say what he wanted to and it just disappeared. It also coincided with the arrival of DS2 so that may have been connected.

I did a search on here at the time and there were loads of posts about children that age stammering - seems to be v common Smile

Thanks, good to know it's not unusual. That link is really helpful Cristina, thanks.

My DS stammered quite a lot from 2 to 2.5. Now, (at almost 3) he doesn't do it at all.

My Ds now 5 stammered quite a bit at around 2.6

I think it was because he knew exactly what he wanted to say but could not get the words out quick enough iyswim. Like his brain was working faster than his mouth iyswim Grin

He is fine now Smile

Have there been any changes in your life = even what you would considor sall ones, like visitors? My DS1 stammered alot betweeen 2.5 and 3 yrs and it was always triggored by a change. First by us ,oving house, then ny a lot of vsitors and finally by DS2 arriving. He grew out of it after that!!

My two DDs have gone through a period of stammering - and then stopped. I'm not aware of anything triggering it. DS isn't at that stage yet.
