Just started weaning DS with puree (did BLW with DD, as she refused anything other than milk until 8 months, but he just isn't interested) He is 6 months next week. Has had a few tastes over last week or so, then gave him some porridge on Wed... Thursday only took about 3oz of each of his 5 bottles. Yesterday he had 5 oz in the morning, tried him with some sweet pot at lunchtime and ate loads, then he refused milk until 4pm when had 4oz, then ate some apple puree and refused his bedtime bottle, gave it to him asleep about 8.30pm and he drank the lot!

Today he has 3oz this morning, then refused milk at lunchtmie so gave him some puree, he fell asleep at 3pm so managed to get 4oz in him then. He had more puree at 5pm and again refused his evening bottle?? what do i do??

he used to have 6oz, 7oz, 7oz, 8oz and 4oz dream feed. To be fair before offering him food he had had a cold and wasn't drinking much (3oz from each bottle) and was very grumpy so thought would try some food to see if he was hungry and bingo happier baby once had some food. but now refusing most bottles and anything i do get in is a real fight....

any thoughts? just seems like he has decided he doesnt like it?? tried calpol 30mins before incase teeth hurting etc...

Hi Fairi, my ds was exactly the same, only I weaned him at 17 weeks. As soon as he got a taste for food he won't take milk, apart from his bedtime bottle. I tried weaning products, hot milk, cold, a tippee cup, a normal cup, I changed the teat, but he just isn't interested. The next best thing I could do was mix it in his porridge, and into all of his food...I pureed his food, but not as much as usual, and added warm milk...all in all he got 5 oz in food in the day time, and 9oz at night before bed. Make sure you introduce full fat yoghurt (I use Greek) and I use cheese sauce, made with formula. Elijah (my ds) used to have 5 bottles a day, down to one. Just make sure you are introducing some well well diluted juice throughout the day, keep an eye on his weight. The milk, like my little fat man, might just not be enough to fill his little tummy, and some babies get a taste for food, and milk just doesn't cut it. I also bought Heinz powdered breakfast yoghurt, for a small snack as that has to be mixed in with milk, then i just blend my own food with lots of milk...if you can blend a large cereal bowl, add a whole bottle of milk, and just throughout the day try and use it up (just don't freeze it). If he takes less than 14 oz (about 2 full bottles) get some iron and vitamin drops!
