Bedtime Tantrums- Any ideas?!

My DD is 4 and has always been an excellent sleeper. (she slept through from 5 days old) In the last month however she is starting to get out of bed after we have put her in and then refuses to go to sleep. (she will get out at least a dozen times) She screams and cries which then wakes my 11 month old. We have tried a star chart, which if she gets a sticker every night she gets a reward on Saturday- Swimming, picnic etc. In the day she is well behaved but at night she turns wild and there is no reasoning with her. It usually ends up with me feeling inept and upsets me for the whole night!!! Any suggestions as to what I can try? Thanks.

Is she frightened of something? DCs often have fears at this age. After a soothing bath and bedtime story try holding her hand till she goes to sleep. IMO she's not being naughty she's upset by something.

Thank you. We had a good chat today and put a night light in her room. All going well so far tonight! Fingers crossed!!

If all else fails, try a story CD when you leave the room.
