Can anyone recommend a good book to help with this? I'm anxious to put good habits in place now.

what sort of signs?

Nothing particularly major but throwing toys, pushing food off of plate onto the floor. Often she turns crying on and off at will to tell us what she wants/doesn't want etc. i feel that we were so switched on with the baby stuff and getting her into a routine but now as things have settled and we know our baby better we've taken our foot off of the gas. I really just want to stay one step ahead of the game!

my ds is 16 months and started this same behaviour about a month ago. i think with babies of this age we will never be ahead of the game, we can just react as well as possible when they act out. how old is your DD? when ds does anything liek dropping food or his favourite, slapping the table. i just say "no" in a firm voice and give him a stern look. it took him a while to understand what that meant so when he did it again i removed him from whatever it was he was hitting or throwing and set him away from it. he cries for a few seconds and when he calms down i take him back to it. it is by no means the end of teh beahvaiour but you have to keep being consistent.

I'm enjoying 'The Happiest Toddler on the Block' by Harvey Karp. It's really good at explaining why toddlers behave as they do, how to encourage the good bits and what to do about the rest. Lovely positive book.
