New teacher at swimming lessons - DS now refusing to go

My ds has been going to swimming lessons since January and has really enjoyed them. We started back 2 weeks ago after a the summer break and has a new teacher who is very non friendly with the children. His last teacher was only 18 and was just made to work with kids, but she has now gone to uni. Last week I let him off going as it was dp's birthday and we had a lot on. Tonight he's just told me he's worrying about swimming and he really doesn't like it. He hates anything new, he's moved up a class, so he doesn't know any of the children, I guess what I'm asking is should I stop going as its worrying him so much? I have paid for the whole term, the money doesn't worry me too much but if I agree to stop I just wander if he'll ever start again. Do I give in or not?

I think I'd let him off for a week and see how he feels then. If he is still adamant not to go, I might be tempted to say ok. He's more likely to go again another time if you haven't forced him, but maybe not to this class with this teacher.
I'd be inclined to wait until he's got more self-confidence.
How old is your son?

Thanks, yeah that's what dp said. He's 5 and can swim, been doing really well, hence moving up a group but the lady is a bit strict.

Tonight I asked him if he would give it one more go this week and if he really doesn't like it, then we don't have to go for the minute. He agreed, but will have to see what he's like on Saturday morning, I just don't want him worrying and ruining part of his weekend.

Sounds like this teacher has taken all the fun out of it.

Are the lessons run by the school? I'd have a word with the organiser if yr. son can swim she might put him right off, maybe ask for yr money back?
