What type of scooter to get for a 3 year old?

Hi ds is 3 and a half and I really wanted to get him one of those micro mini scooters as I am sick of dragging the pushchair to school runs in case he gets tired or is too slow.
But as he will be 4 in March I think maybe an Iscoot micro would be better as the minis are small and he may grow out of it quickly (he's quite tall as well). Does anyone's DC have one and are they any good?
Sorry if this isn't the right topic but I wasn't sure where to post.

We bought DS a mini micro for his 3rd birthday, and it is fab! He loves it, and rarely falls off! He is quite tall, and I think he will get plenty of use out of it.

the mini micros are great, we just got DS (4.5) and there's plenty of life in it yet. We really regret not getting him one sooner

CarGirl · 20/09/2010 20:15

the iscoot ones are completely rubbish. We'd had mini micros until dd was 6 got an iscoot and she nearly threw it away on the maiden voyage had to invest in a maxi micro instead.

The same has happened to one of the other school mums, the iscoot ones are hideous.

Mini micros are absolutely fab. DD2 has one and uses it nearly every day. She has started to use her sisters next one up (sorry cant remember what its called but its the same design just twice the price!) so that one may be better for you. Best to take him to somewhere that has them (we went to John Lewis last Christmas) and see which one he gets on better with.

Without doubt a minimicro, and not the cheapo copy.

The3Bears · 20/09/2010 20:19

I would get the mini micro tbh you will get enough use out of it to justify the amount and you can always get the bigger one when he is over 5 :)

Another vote for mini micro. Both my dd and ds have one and they are absolutely fab. Not sure until what age they are supposed to last though. Dd is 4 now and it still fits her fine but my ds got his at 18months and he doesn't appear too small for it. The next size up looks good too though - is it called the Micro?

ThingOne · 20/09/2010 20:28

If he's tall you could try the next size up. It has an adjustable handle bar and can take a much heavier weight. But it's £85 so you need to guard it with your life.

My eight year old dd can't wait to coerce her 3 yr old sister into handing over her Mini Micro scooter to 'help' her get up hills. Wouldn't say you would buy one for a child over 5 but she finds it comfortable to ride even at 8. It is so much more refined than her £15 cheepie that I am thinking of getting her something similar for bigger kids for Christmas. Took the little one a while to get the hang of the steering but she whizzes along now. And yes it is great to leave the buggy at home on the school run!

Wow girls you've made my day!! I was really unsure about those "iscoots" in the end and someone in the playground today recommended the mini micro as well and her son is nearly 5 I think.
Ds tried his sister's big scooter today (one front wheel 2 back wheels silver ones) and he fell off it (again) and hurt himself. And I would say he's a really well coordinated boy but it completely put him off trying again.
So I can't wait to get him a mini micro.
Now the question is where from? (sorry girls).
obviously I would like to save a bit of money but I want a brand new one. Any ideas?

The3Bears · 22/09/2010 10:37

I got mine from John Lewis just free delivery there but never thought about jojo, I did get mine nearly a yr ago though Sad they have codes so get it from there :)

My very tall 5 yo is still using the same mini micro scooter we got 3 years ago. We're going to get her the bigger one for her birthday in December.
