Hi,

I'm probably just being over anxious but is it ok that my one year old baby still commando crawls rather than crawls on hands and knees? He started at 6 months and has kept to that method. We have rather slippery wooden floors so wonder if that might be it. However, I have heard that not crawling properly can indicate learning difficulties. He pulls himself up (on everything) and cruises but is yet to stand without holding on to anything at all. What do you think?

thanks

He sounds completely normal to me.

Why crawl 'properly' if your method works?

I think its the floors. DS1 used to do that when he was young and never crawled 'properly' on our wood floors. I wouldn't worry sounds like he is doing great with the cruising thing too. DS2 didn't walk until 20 months but is fine now. They all do things in their own time.

Sounds completely fine. My DS commando crawled until about 14 months old, crawled properly for a month and then walked.

There would be other indicators if your DS had learning difficulties. Many, many babies do not crawl in the 'typical' way and don't have learning difficulties...
